BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:00 A.M.) – The U.S. Air Force killed one of the highest ranking commanders of Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham (formerly Al-Nusra Front) on Sunday after a predator drone struck his vehicle along the Sarmada Highway in the Idlib Governorate.
The jihadist commander was identified as Abu ‘Umar Al-Turkistani, a prominent commander of Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham and their predecessor Jabhat Al-Nusra.
Initially, it was believed to be an airstrike that killed this jihadist commander; however, it was later revealed to be a predator drone attack after Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham announced his death.
Abu ‘Umar Al-Turkistani was recently elected to become the chief organizer of the Shoura Council, which would oversee the merger of all Islamist factions in northern Syria.
The death of this high ranking jihadist commander on Sunday was a major blow to Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham and their allies, as Abu ‘Umar Al-Turkistani was an advocate for unifying the rebel groups in northern Syria.
