A group of US-backed fighters has officially defected to a jihadi group which is internationally designated as a terror group.
A battalion of militants fighting under Suqour al-Jabal (The Mountain falcons) Brigade, an FSA-affiliated group which is bankrolled by Qatar and trained by the United States, has issued an official statement yesterday, declaring defection from the mother Brigade.
The decision, according to the statement, came after Suqour al-Jabal Brigade merged with Division 13, another US-backed rebel group, in the northwestern province of Idlib.
The battalion said it will join Jabhet Fateh al-Sham (formerly al-Nusra Front), al-Qaeda offshoot in Syria, to continue fight the Syrian government troops.
Both Suqour al-Jabal Brigade and Division 13 have received U.S.-made BGM-71 TOW anti-tank missiles.
