On Tuesday night, the U.S. backed “New Syrian Army” (NSA), backed by Coalition airstrikes, reportedly captured the village of Al-Hamdan near the Islamic State stronghold of Abukamal in eastern Deir Ezzor.

According to the New Syrian Army’s official media wing, their forces seized Al-Hamdan from the Islamic State terrorists after advancing from the Tanf border-crossing in southeastern Homs.

As a result of this advance on Tuesday night, the New Syrian Army is now approaching the outskirts of Abukamal, while their counterparts across the border attempt to seize the Iraqi town of Al-Qa’im in Al-Anbar.

The U.S. backed groups fighting in Syria and Iraq launched a massive offensive on Tuesday in order to cutoff the Islamic State from the two border cities of Al-Qa’im and Abukamal; it is currently ongoing.

The correct title of the report should be “US backed rebels advance on US backed ISIS stronghold in Deir Ezzor”.
