Spokesperson for the US Department of State Heather Nauert stated US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told Saudi Arabia “to pursue prosecution of corruption in a fair and transparent manner” at a press briefing in Washington DC on Thursday.
Nauert explained that in a conversation with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, Tillerson recognised that Saudi Arabia is a “strong partner” of the United States. In regards to recent arrests of businessmen, royals and officials in a corruption crackdown, she reported that he encouraged “the Government of Saudi Arabia to pursue prosecution of corruption in a fair and transparent manner.”
Nauert criticised Venezuela’s Anti-Hate Law for Tolerance and Peaceful Coexistence, adopted on Wednesday, saying sanctions on ten Venezuelan government media officials will remain, “until they break from Maduro’s dictatorial regime.”
Commenting upon food shortages in Yemen, she stated the US, “would like to see food aid, medical equipment, and all of that be able to be brought into the ports.”
