DAMASCUS, SYRIA (10:20 P.M.) – Kurdish units, heavily assisted by US Marines, Special Forces and warplanes, officially imposed full control of the Al-Yarmouk district on Monday, thereby kicking ISIS militants out of their last rural area on the northern bank of the Euphrates River.

In effect, the Kurdish-led ‘Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) and Manbij Military Council (MMC) have secured all flanks of the Islamic State’s capital, thereby establishing launching pads for close-quarter assaults against the Islamic State, gradually zeroing in on Raqqa’s city center:

Amid the battle for the Yarmouk neighborhood, the MMC’s media wing released footage of a Stryker armored vehicle driving through its residential areas while a AH-64 Apache chopper was flying above, thereby reaffirming the US Army’s involvement in the battle for Raqqa.

An estimated 40% of Raqqa city has thus far been captured by US allies although some 2,000 ISIS militants are still fighting for every inch.
