Footage has appeared online showing burning debris on a field near a Syrian air defence battery outside the Damascus suburb city of Kiswah.

The video, taken from multiple angles and distances, shows unidentified men’s efforts to put out the flames next to a cylindrical piece of wreckage using dirt and shovels.

It’s not clear whether the wreckage is a piece of a downed Israeli missile or that of an air defence missile fired off to try to stop the Israeli barrage.

The Israeli military confirmed Saturday that it attacked two Syrian artillery units, an SA-2 anti-aircraft missile battery and multiple observation and intelligence posts in response to shelling from Syrian territory. Earlier, the IDF reported that two projectiles had been fired from Syrian territory in the direction of Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights.

Syrian media reported that the country’s air defences had shot down a number of enemy missiles south of Damascus, and noted that continued strikes killed three Syrian soldiers and injured seven others.

On Sunday night, Syrian military sources said that the Israeli military attacked the T-4 military airbase in Homs, with two of the projectiles said to have been shot down. At least one person was killed and two others were injured in that strike.

Last week, Israel launched a separate attack against a Syrian military target in Quneitra region after an Israeli fighter jet operating in the area was reportedly targeted by the Syrian military. Syrian media reported that several people were injured in that assault.

By just looking the side of this peace, SAM system is gone. Syria radar system (S-300 for example) is capable to see Israel planes very far away (1,000 Km away), but Syria does not want to shut down any Israel plane outside Syria borders, that is very very very strange. Syria is just waiting the attack and trying to stop those lunched missiles.. how stupid this is.

I agree that this looks weird, but just because we don’t see all the factors in this equation does not make their strategy stupid. Everyone is still holding their cards close to their chests and Israel it seems is pretty good at that…

The only valuable strategy is what Egypt engaged in 40 years ago : genuine peace and good neighbourhood…

>>> No, since there is no game with them and they are no match : they are the casino, and if you don’t want to lose then end sleeping on the sidewalk, it’s simple : don’t gamble!

You don’t understand the terrain in Golan high between Israel and Syria, its mountain. so Israeli aircraft comes up above the mountain level for 30 seconds, fire missile and go down again. like you shoot from behind the wall and you go down. so for the 300 system hard to shoot Israeli aircraft, plus israeli they fire the missiles from their own territory. so the mountain protects Israeli aircraft.
so Go up, shoot, go down.

Beside israel dont need to fly high and risk aircraft vs SAM…they just fly at low alttitude and launch cruise missile guide by GPS…S-300 are only useful in case of war..where airforce need to support troops on ground flying above the targets!

***”Syria radar system (S-300 for example) is capable to see Israel planes very far away (1,000 Km away)”*** >>> Surely not : take a look at S-300 characteristics : Early warning : 300-350km depending on model, targetting : 200km max, any way, the missiles don’t range more and it’d be stupid to spend in a very expensive targetting system exceeding the range of your missiles. BTW, the S-300 radars are not fit to target stealth objects, you have to consider extra-systemic radar systems for such purposes. Early warning radars are cheap low frequency ones (UHF/VHF) with huge antennas, just like… Read more »

Thats an stupid coment!…first of all if Israel launch a large scale attack and want to put troops inside syria,,, 1º they need air force, helicopters flying over targets to destroy rockets/ missile launcher as well air defense system….but Syria have many mobile system( Pantsir, Ossa,Buk) which makes dificult to do this task in few months…for other side syria have P-800 supersonic cruise missile ( mach 3 in low flight) 350 km range, guide by Glonass launched by mobile system and Israel cannot intercept them!…just 7 or 8 hitting Tel Aviv is enough with population in panic and inside shelters… Read more »
