Al-Mayadeen’s Aleppo correspondent, Rida Al-Basha, reported on Thursday morning that the Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces” captured the southern farms of Al-Mallah after making a swift advance through the jihadist rebel defenses.
Basha followed this claim up by stating that the Tiger Forces cutoff the strategic Al-Castillo Highway; thus, encircling the jihadist rebels in east Aleppo.
These claims by Al-Mayadeen could not be verified at the moment; however, early reports indicated that the Tiger Forces were advancing at the southern farms of Al-Malaah.
Even if the Tiger Forces seize the southern farms, they will not likely be able to hold this area without cutting off the Al-Castillo Highway.
The reason they won’t be able to maintain control of the southern farms is due to its susceptibility to enemy artillery fire from the Al-Castillo Highway; this is why they need to swiftly capture the aforementioned roadway in order to avoid withdrawing north.
