On Sunday morning in the Aleppo Governorate’s northern countryside, the U.S. backed rebels from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and their Islamist allies continued their war against the U.S. backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), striking the latter at several villages in between the Mennagh Military Airbase and the Afrin Canton.
Yesterday, the SDF’s “Jaysh Al-Thuwar” (Free Syrian Army faction) captured 7 villages that were under the control of the Free Syrian Army factions allied with the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Liwaa Suqour Al-Sham, and the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” after a series of intense firefights on the fringes of the Mennagh Military Airbase.
The Free Syrian Army and their Islamist rebel allies countered on Sunday morning, recapturing the villages of Kashta’ar and Tanib from the Syrian Democratic Forces after the latter pushed too deep into the enemy’s territory.
Despite claims of capturing Shawarighat, the Free Syrian Army and their Islamist allies have not taken full control of this village; however, it is still contested and on the verge of falling to the latter’s fighters.
The Free Syrian Army fighters loyal to the Islamist coalition “Fatah Halab” released pictures from the villages of Kashta’ar and Tanib that showed their militants incinerating the flags belonging to the PYD (Kurdish political wing) and the Syrian Democratic Forces; these flags were replaced with the Syrian rebel flag.
Jaysh Al-Thuwar is a Free Syrian Army faction that is loyal to the Kurdish “People’s Protection Units” – they are comprised of fighters from the disbanded Syrian Revolutionaries Front (SRF) and Harakat Hazzm.
The other Free Syrian Army fighters are loyal to the Islamist rebels that helped disband both the SRF and Harakat Hazzm last year.
