BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:15 P.M.) – Two Iranian soldiers were killed in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan on Thursday, state-owned IRNA reported.
Citing the Iranian Border Guard Commander Brigadier General Qasem Rezaei, the IRNA said that the two soldiers were killed in armed clashes with terrorist drug traffickers near the Pakistan border.
The commander added that two assailants were also killed and several others escaped the scene.
He continued that the militants were seeking to import drugs from the southeastern borderlines and two regions in the Sistan-Baluchestan Province.
Rezaei said the armed forces also managed to confiscate considerable amount of light and heavy weapons and munitions, military and telecommunication equipment.
Rezaei added about 1.1 tons of illegal drugs were confiscated by Iran’s border guards in two military operations.
