Two humanitarian corridors for refugees who wish to leave the Rukban refugee camp were opened in the settlements of Jleb and Jabal al-Ghurab on Tuesday morning.

According to the chief of Russia’s National Defence Control Centre, Mikhail Mizintsev, “In accordance with the February 16 joint statement by the Russian and Syrian coordination centres on opening the humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of Syrians from the Rukban camp two checkpoints at Jleb and Jabal al-Ghurab opened today.”

The checkpoints will operate round the clock, and security will be provided by the Russian and Syrian military. The corridors also provide food and clothing, facilities for medical examination, document verification and other paperwork.

Rukban is located in the US-controlled Al-Tanf security zone of Syria. According to the UN, the camp currently accommodates around 40,000 people.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
