Two men were arrested on suspicion of terrorism in a police raid on an Islamic centre in Brisbane, ABC television reported.
The men are suspected of helping to recruit fighters for groups involved in the conflict in Syria and of funding the recruits’ travel to the region, the report said.
ABC said the brother of a man widely believed to be Australia’s first suicide bomber in Syria had ties to the centre.
The raid came a day after national spy chief David Irvine said he is considering raising the terrorism threat level over a build-up in the past year of a threat of domestic terrorism. The domestic terrorism threat level has been at medium since 2003.
