The Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard is steamrolling the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the Latakia Governorate’s northern countryside, capturing over 65 sites in over two months time.
Recently, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade – backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Latakia City, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and the Syrian Resistance – seized the strategic mountains at Jabal Al-Nuba, resulting in a mass exodus of militants from the mountaintop towards the Turkish border.
In addition to the capture of Jabal Al-Nuba, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade has also captured several points along the Turkish border, including Jabal Al-Zahiyah (Zahiyah Mountains) and a number of small hilltops that overlook the southern Turkey countryside.
On Thursday morning in the Latakia Governorate’s northern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade – in coordination with the National Defense Forces and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party – imposed full control over Point 489.5 after a violent battle with Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army’s 1st Coastal Brigade.
According to a military source in the Turkmen Mountains, the Syrian Armed Forces could see several soldiers from the Turkish Army watching the Islamist rebels retreat from their positions along the border.
