Reports are coming in from Turkey stating that many of the soldiers detained and later interrogated were completely unaware they were complicit in the coup.

“We were told by our commanders where to deploy as part of maneuvers”

“We didn’t realize we were a part of it [the coup] until people started to climb the tanks”

This explains how pro-Erdoğan civilians (nicknamed the People’s Power on social media) were able to halt the deployment of Turkish tanks and APC’s with their bare hands or, in some cases, by laying down on the street.

Once the soldiers realized they were a part of the coup, they simply withdrew or surrendered themselves.

Turkey has mandatory military service for all young men, many of whom are apolitical.

Minister Suleyman Soylu announces US is behind the coup.
Seems that Erdofans are attacking kurds in Iskenderun, Malatya and Osmaniye.

I am very dubious about US involvement : in this case, rebels would have had accurate intel on ALL the points to seize : To make a good coup, the first thing to do us to seize all the heads of the state and blocade any communications : jam all radio signals, big internet hubs, cable TV hubs, etc… Another point : Gollum takes a plane, rebels have F-16s and don’t shoot him down??? They must be strange : Gollum is the main target. You’ve got jet fighters, he’s in an aircraft, hey! Another point : if you’re in a… Read more »

That’s insane, so who would set up the soldiers? It is quite weird though watching some of those vids. The soldiers could have just shot at the crowd that were walking towards them but instead you could see them shooting in the air. It looked like they were being careful to not hurt the civillians.

Not surprised. In the July 20th plot to kill Hitler and to over throw the nazis, the reserve army had no idea what was happening. Soldiers follow orders.
