Oklahoma City Thunder star, Enes Kanter, was the victim of several death threats by Erdogan supporters this week after he criticized the Turkish regime for censoring the country’s social media networks.
Kanter, who is an outspoken critic of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, posted the death threats he received from the latter’s supporters on Friday, causing great concern for his safety abroad.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) star has been accused by the Erdogan loyalists of supporting the banned Gulen Movement, despite making no reference to the aforementioned group in his public comments about last week’s coup.
The Turkish President has launched a witch hunt against the Gulen Movement, which Kanter is accused of sympathizing with.
Kanter was removed from the Turkish National Basketball Team’s roster in 2015 for his alleged support of the Gulen Movement and outspoken criticism of Erdogan.
