BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:20 P.M.) – The Turkish military launched a fresh series of attacks in northern Syria, tonight, after an intense standoff with the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) on Thursday morning.
According to local reports from northeast Aleppo, the Turkish military repeatedly struck the YPG stronghold of Kobane with heavy artillery this evening.
The Turkish ground assault was then followed up by their attack helicopters bombarding the YPG’s positions inside and outside Kobane.
The total number of casualties from this attack is still unknown.
Turkey has recently intensified their attacks on the YPG’s positions in northern Syria after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that his country’s military would be launching a new operation east of the Euphrates.
