BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:00 P.M.) – The Turkish military has begun helicopter training drills for what appears to be their next major operation in Syria.

According to the pro-opposition page Halab Today, the Turkish military is conducting live training drills involving helicopter air landings as they prepare for their eastern Euphrates offensive against the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG).

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly stated that his armed forces are going to expel the Kurdish-led troops from northern Syria.

However, despite his repeated statements, Erodgan will have to deal with the U.S. Coalition, who is deeply embedded with the Kurdish forces in northern syria.

Should Washington choose to leave their forces in Syria, this could cause a major rift between the U.S. and Turkey.

With tensions already mounting from Ankara’s S-400 deal with Russia, a potential Turkish military operation could lead to a severe issue with the U.S.

Yankees gave Javelin ATGM to SDF but… Javelin is not only fire’n’forget on vehicles : it’s also a VERY bad surprise for choppers. Won’t go as high as a Stinger for sure but better not consider air-landing troops while into Javelin’s range, it’s gonna hurt…

That’s not nice . If you don’t agree with Daeshbags and many don’t on occasions including me , just tell him you don’t agree . No need to resort to gutter language as it doesn’t enhance your argument.

@Peter, trolls language. I’d snipe at their culture.
Hope I am on target.

Umar : since my mother died 4 years ago, sorry, unlike your Muhammad who shagged his dead aunt, our society despises necrophilia, as much as having intercourses between cousins which are the cause of your 100% consanguinity and genetic diseases. Shagging animals is also allowed in your cult on condition to sacrifice ’em after. Bestiality is also banned in our kuffar societies. Sorry Umar, but stop seeing your case as a generality : these disgusting practises may be the norm in the so-called society you’re living in, we hopefully for our DNA pool do not condone such practises, that’s even… Read more »

An RPG took out a Bell helicopter in Rhodesia towards the end of their war on a cross border raid that killed all 14 on board. Seems to be no shortage of RPG’s

You need choppers for bridges or dam’s or other secluded high value places – or is it normal by now?

In fact, modern parachutes, wingsuits (including jet powered ones!), guided parachutes with up to 27t payload (light/medium tanks, IFVs etc) make choppers of lesser and lesser interest : just consider how many choppers are lost during all wars since their use has became generalised and do not count on me to promote the purchase of $100M MV-22, $85M CH-53K with 15.9t payload or $40M CH-47 with 10.8t payload to get them blasted by a RPG-7 just like the Seal Team-6 CH-47 in Afgha or the SAR Russian one sent to rescue the Su-24 pilots shot down by Turks in 2015… Read more »

@Daeshbags-Sux, You posted this assessment before. AFAIR. The idea from Your answer – choppers are for point extraction and attack but better means exist?

But what are the Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri planing against Kurdish high value positions and what are these – if MSK train this?

p.s. Military always bank on equipment and tactics used in the last successful war, no matter how obsolete it or its last use is. IMHO. Example deployment methods of allied tanks at the beginning of WW II. It copied its last use in WW I. So superior and more numerous tanks were outclassed by innovative Bewegungskrieg.

So when they actually go and do it are they going to have a man on the ground to go up and tell the troops on the chopper what they need to do..
