BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:50 P.M.) – The Turkish Armed Forces and their allied militants are reportedly preparing for a new military operation at the town of Tal Rifa’at in northern Aleppo, pro-opposition activists reported on Sunday.
According to the reports, the Turkish military and their allied militants are seeking to expel the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) from the Tal Rifa’at area, which includes the Mennagh Military Airport.
These reports come just a day after the YPG and Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (TFSA) traded strikes in the ‘Azaz area of northern Aleppo.
The Turkish authorities have eyed Tal Rifa’at for a long time now, as their threats to capture the town stretch back to 2016 when the YPG forces upended the Free Syrian Army from the area.
The primary obstacle for the Turkish military and their allied militants in northern Aleppo, however, is the presence of the Russian Armed Forces and Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
The Syrian Arab Army and Russian military are both at Tal Rifa’at and its very likely that they will move into the YPG-held areas before the Turkish forces launch their offensive.
