BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:20 P.M.) – The Turkish-backed rebels have been on a roll in the Afrin region lately, capturing several localities from the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG).
Led by the Free Syrian Army (FSA), the Turkish-backed rebels managed to advance on Afrin from two different flanks, leaving their forces within a short distance of the city.
Based on reports from pro-opposition activists, the Turkish-backed rebels are now 1km north of Afrin at the Qibar axis and 3km south of the city from the Kojka axis.
As a result of this rebel advance, there has been a mass diaspora of civilians from Afrin city to the Syrian government-held towns of Al-Zahra’a and Nubl in northern Aleppo.
In the coming days, the Turkish-backed rebels are expected to launch their final assault to capture Afrin city from the YPG forces.
