BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:50 P.M.) – The Turkish-backed rebels in northern Aleppo are once again clashing over territory in the Afrin region, the pro-opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported today.
According to the SOHR report, a dispute over the location of a military checkpoint resulted in a fierce standoff between two Turkish-backed factions in Afrin city.
Intense clashes would then breakout between Liwaa Al-Mutassem and Jabhat Al-Shamiyah, resulting in 11 total casualties between the groups.
“The fight turned into clashes using heavy machine guns and grenades near Kawa roundabout in al-Ashrafieh area inside Afrin city,” the SOHR report added.
Recently, tensions have been rising among the Turkish-backed groups, as old rivalries and territorial greed have resulted in increased violence.
