BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:40 A.M.) – The Turkish-backed rebels in the southern countryside of the Idlib Governorate have begun digging trenches along the outskirts of Ma’arat Al-Nu’man as they brace for a major assault on the city from Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham.
According to pro-opposition activists in southern Idlib, Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham of the Turkish-backed National Liberation Front began digging trenches and raising sand walls around Ma’arat Al-Nu’man after the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham were seen amassing their forces around the city.
Furthermore, reports from southern Idlib indicate that Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham has already cut off most of the roads to Ma’arat Al-Nu’man.
This move to cut the roads by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham is being done to force their former allies from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham to surrender Ma’arat Al-Nu’man.
However, Ma’arat Al-Nu’man residents have long opposed the presence of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and will not likely welcome the transfer of the city to the aforementioned jihadist group.
