BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:45 A.M.) – The Turkish-backed rebels scored a new advance in the northern countryside of the Aleppo Governorate on Saturday, seizing several areas inside the strategic Afrin region.
Led by the Free Syrian Army (FSA), the Turkish-backed rebels began the day by capturing the town of Deir Balout and its corresponding hilltops after a fierce battle with the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG).
Deir Balout is situated at the southwestern corridor of the Afrin Canton, which is also located at the northern axis of the Idlib Governorate.
As a result of this important advance, the Turkish-backed rebels in the Afrin region have officially linked up with their allies in the Idlib Governorate.
The YPG is expected to launch a major counter-offensive in the coming hours, as they look to expel the Turkish-backed rebels from the area.
