According to Turkey’s Defence Ministry, Turkish troops have opened fire at the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) for the second time since 18 January, in response to the latter’s fire from the city of Tell Rifaat.

The members of the Turkish Armed Forces, deployed in the Euphrates Shield Operation, have shot 5 howitzers in the districts of Tell Rifaat to the southeast of Afrin, according to CNN Turk.

The YPG/PKK reportedly organised two attacks targeting civilians on Afrin’s city centre on 20 January. As a result of the attacks, 10 civilians lost their lives, 18 people were injured.

In early December, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Ankara was ready to launch a new military operation against Kurdish militias — which it considers to be terrorist groups — on the eastern bank of the Euphrates as well as in Manbij, Syria, located near the Turkish border, if the United States did not facilitate the pullout of the militia from the region.

Later, the Turkish president postponed the operation following a December 14 phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, who later announced plans to withdraw US troops from Syria.

The first operation by Turkey and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) opposition forces was launched in January last year in the northern Syrian district of Afrin aimed at “clearing” the YPG and the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) from Turkey’s Syrian border. In March last year, Ankara stated that Afrin was under the complete control of the Turkish forces.

One must remember NATO “is not agreement capable” and that Turkey has been cut from the NATO herd where NATO in general has doubled down even now threatening any one from participating in reconstruction in Syria including civilian air transportation parts. NATO is the military construct of transnational criminal cabal/s and although was established under the guise of being a defense force has been used as a mercenary force for death, destruction and genocide for pillage and plunder and no longer has a defense cloak to hide behind. The truth has been bared and now appears to be locked in… Read more »

@George King, You are mixing up NATO with NATO members US and Turkey plus maybe the UK.

When did NATO commanded forces commit genocide…?

Turk forces did… Under the command of their Sultan.

The US threatened to sanction participants of Syrian reconstruction. NATO council and NATO did not. .

Moreover, had NATO, or even the US alone, had decided to demolish the Syrian state, Assad wouldn’t had lasted longer than Saddam or Gaddafi. When it comes to Yankees, you had some crooked US politicians on Qatar payroll that accepted doing pay-for-play through some form of bribes, e.g. Killary, then illegally abused their power and so had CIA illegally implied without any Congress allowance or funding. The infamous “Operation Timber Sycamore” had not a cent or dollar paid by US tax-payers and in fact, such an operation is just like the Iran/Contras shït during the 80’s, totally forbidden under US… Read more »

Aye, you are parsing words here Star. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was and is a US/CIA construct and not all countries agree with the policies of the US especially with the construct of mercenary army/armies. It is known by many names but is commonly known as terrorist. NATO Command may not be the right choice specifically for public announcement of some of its member’s involvement. How can you not recognize that some of its members (NATO) are behind supporting these mercenaries even if other members themselves (grotesque self-deception) do not or most notably do not condemn the actions of… Read more »

@George, You admit Yourself that only some members of the NATO did, what You claim. While You also claim the whole NATO commits these crimes more or less permanently and by design. Can You claim and prove that German forces (Germany is a NATO member) participated in the Turkish (NATO member too) and IS planed and partly executed Kobane genocide? If not: Refrain from such generalizations. Because about Kobane I can claim and prove the opposite. p.s. It does not matter what US/CIA created NATO for, or better what purpose You claim it did, but what NATO members do as… Read more »

@George, You are mixing up NATO as such with the actions of some powerful NATO states. NATO was created as a mutual defense pact of a group of more or less democratic governed countries with capitalist or ordoliberalist economies to counter Warsaw pact, defending a communist economic order/some form of state capitalism, with a peoples republic type democracy. The later had the biggest tank army of that era. There is and was nothing cabal about that. The lead nations of the respective pacts always had their own agenda. Now we only have the antics of the major NATO contributors and… Read more »

Nestor : remember that Turksh AKP = Muslim Brotherhood and that Khamenei translated all (Muslim Brotherhood demented “thinker” who ‘inspired’ Ossama and Zawahiri) into Farsi. You really must be a Muslim Brotherhood member to want to translate Qutb’s huge insane literature, just like Hassan al-Bana (Muslim Brotherhood’s founder) translated Hitler’s ‘Mein Kampf’ in Arab, thus starting what inherited the moniker of ‘Nazislamism’. Thus, do not assume that Iranian leadership is manipulated by Erdogan while they’re more likely together in bed having already parted Syria on the same pattern Molotov and Von Ribbentrop had agreed to part Poland in two. When… Read more »
