BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 A.M.) – The Turkish and Russian defense ministers held a phone meeting on Saturday to discuss several issues inside Syria, the Daily Sabah reported.
According to the Daily Sabah report, the Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar spoke to his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu about the ongoing situation in the Idlib province and the need to take technical and tactical measures to ensure the completion of the Sochi agreement.
Furthermore, the two defense ministers discussed the situation at the northern Aleppo town of Tal Rifa’at.
Turkey has been hinting for some time that they wanted the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) expelled from Tal Rifa’at and its surroundings.
However, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has deployed a large number of troops to this front in order to block Turkey’s advance into this key town.
