BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:30 P.M.) – Turkey will create a 30 kilometer deep safe zone that will be free of any fighters from the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), the Daily Sabah reported on Saturday.
Furthermore, the Turkish publication claimed that the new safe zone will also prevent damage caused by attacks from the Syrian government and allow Ankara to fight “terrorist organizations.”
“By establishing a safe zone, Turkey’s aims to prevent damage caused by Syrian regime attacks, to avoid terrorist organizations from flourishing in the country, provide a safe area for Syrian people and stem migration,” the Daily Sabah report claimed.
The Syrian government has already rejected the Turkish regime’s proposed safe zone, while also demanding that Ankara immediately withdraw from the country.
Despite their demands, the Syrian government has been unable to force the Turkish military to withdraw from the country.
The primary reason the Turkish military has been able to maintain a presence inside Syria is due to their agreements with the Russian military.
The Russian Federation has partnered with the Turkish regime to implement a buffer zone in the Idlib, Aleppo, Latakia, and Hama provinces
