BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:15 P.M.) – The Kremlin’s Spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov stated on Friday that the Turkish military provided the intel for the Russian airstrike that killed three of their soldiers in Al-Bab countryside of Aleppo.
“Unfortunately, our military, while carrying out strikes on terrorists, was guided by coordinates given to them by our Turkish partners and Turkish servicemen should not have been present on those coordinates, and therefore these unintended strikes took place,” Peskov stated during a conference call with reporters.
The three Turkish soldiers were at the targeted location of the airstrike when a Russian jet began bombing the Islamic State’s positions in the Al-Bab countryside.
“It was a lack of coordination in providing coordinates, that is how I would formulate it” Peskov added.
Initially, Turkish officers accused the Syrian military of carrying out these attacks; however, sources from the Syrian Arab Army told Al-Masdar News on Thursday that none of their fighter jets carried out airstrikes north of Al-Bab.
