BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:15 P.M.) – Turkey has plans to create a massive “security zone” east of the Euphrates River, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently stated during his visit to the United States.
According to Erdogan, the Turkish-backed rebels and his own forces will work to clear the ‘terrorists’ that are currently in control of a large area in the Euphrates River Valley.
Erdogan slammed the U.S.’ currently support for the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG), adding that they provided weapons to the group in Syria.
“You can ask: where did the PYD (the Syrian Kurdish party Democratic Union) and the YPG, that is, the PKK branches, seek resources, weapons, and money? Previously, Turkey said that it would destroy the terrorist corridor in northern Syria, and therefore entered Jarabulus, Afrin and Al-Bab, but unfortunately our strategic allies are taking different steps,” he said.
“We cleared the over 4,000 square kilometers of Syrian territory from the terrorists and we have established a security zone there. We will continue our operations east of the Euphrates, “Erdogan said, speaking at a dinner hosted by the TÜRKEN Foundation in New York.
