BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:30 P.M.) – The Africa News Portal quoted Libyan sources as saying, “The Turkish intelligence service is conducting a search campaign in the western mountain region southwest of the Libyan capital, in search of Saif al-Islam al-Gaddafi.”

The sources said that “Turkish Intelligence has created a new room managed by Khaled Al-Sharif, the former supervisor of the Hadaba prison in Tripoli, and Abdul Hakim Al-Hajj. Among its goals is to search for Saif Al-Islam to assassinate him or arrest him, hand him over to the International Criminal Court and end his political role.”

The agency pointed out that local reports had said earlier this May that, “Investigation elements from the Special Deterrent Force militia of the Ministry of Interior in the Al-Wefaq government have infiltrated the town of Zintan, located 136 km southwest of Tripoli, at the top of the western mountain summit, to locate Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, and that the operation was carried out with the support of the pro-government party of Fayez al-Sarraj in the city that is divided between supporters of the Libyan National Army and others loyal to the government of reconciliation.”

On the other hand, the agency quoted the Libyan political activist Mohammed Al-Abani as saying that Saif al-Islam is in good health and is in a safe and secure place, under heavy guard.

Despite reports claiming Gaddafi is alive and well, the son of the former Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, has not been seen in public since the start of the conflict.

This is a Civilized Place for Public Discussion

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

The topics discussed here matter to us, and we want you to act as if they matter to you, too. Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
