BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:55 A.M.) – On the exact same day – almost to the hour – that Islamic State militants kicked-off a major offensive against the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (of which Kurdish units represent a leading component), the Turkish Army and proxy rebel groups under its command invaded Kurdish-held Afrin.

Whilst Turkey-led forces attacked Kurdish paras in Afrin under the operation dubbed ‘Olive Branch,’ ISIS conducted its own wide-sweeping assault against Kurdish militias and their Arab allies in the province of Deir Ezzor called ‘Revenge for the Virtuous Women’ which is still ongoing.

With all of this taking place on the same day, the timing could not be worse for Kurdish forces who are now stuck with the dilemma of retraining units in east Syria to stave off the ongoing ISIS assault or reinforcing their comrades in Afrin.

In all of this is the United States – the main backer of the Syrian Democratic Forces – who has threatened to cut all support to fighters of the paramilitary alliance who chose to relocate from eastern Syria to Afrin.

Even if one puts aside the Turk V US conflict of ideas aside, it is most gratifying to see the NATO trained, armed and funded ‘Free Syrian Army’ fighting the NATO trained, armed and funded ‘Syrian Democratic Forces’.

Trump has warned Turkey against starting a fight with US troops , BUT what will Turkey do if US troops start a fight with Turkish troops?

I am getting addicted to Popcorn 🙂
