Ankara have announced a curfew in rural areas close to the Kurd-dominated city of Diyarbakir in southeastern Turkey. This comes ahead of of the Turkish military launching a new operation against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) that Ankara deems as a terrorist organization.
The operation is to focus around 10 areas of Lice in Diyarbakir Province and comes as the Turkish military ended operations against the PKK in Nusaybin near the Syrian border and in Sirnak near the border with Iraq.
More than 1,000 people have been killed in the latest bout of fighting between the PKK and the Turkish military that erupted 3 months ago.
