Emergency services converged outside a police station in the southeastern city of Gaziantep on Tuesday, after an alleged suicide bomber attempting to enter the police station was shot dead.

Consecutive gunfire lasting a reported two minutes could be heard at around 15:30 local time (12:30GMT).

The gunman was prevented from entering the city’s police headquarters. One police officer was injured in the incident.

Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek confirmed the death of the alleged attacked but also stated that another assailant present at the incident escaped and was still at large.
