The attack happened at Har Adar, an “up end” Israeli settlement near Jerusalem that is illegally existing on Palestinian land, in violation of three specific UN resolutions.
The shooter, a Palestinian man – who has been identified as Nimer Jamal, a 37 year old father of four from the near village of Beit Surak – was also executed at the scene.
The shooter was reported to have been a worker in Israeli illegal settlements and did the job to provide for his family, he reportedly approached the entry of the site and opened fire on Israeli guards, killing three and injuring a forth.
Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas has placed the blame of the attack on the ongoing illegal Israeli occupation, whilst a Hamas spokesperson in Gaza has hailed the attack as a sign that Palestinian resistance is not dead.
Hazen Kassem, spokesman of Hamas, said about the attack in an interview to al-Jazeera, that “our freedom and independence will only be achieved by resistance, not by standing at the doors of international organisations begging for it.”
