BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:05 A.M.) – Fighters from the so-called Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) and their families were evacuated from Qara, western Qalamun, located close to the border with Lebanon, on Monday.
According to reports around 308 IS militants were evacuated and 331 civilians.
They will head to Bukamal, eastern Syria, in Deir ez-Zor province, still under IS control.
This is the first time IS has agreed to a forced evacuation before the media.
It comes following a ceasefire deal agreed upon with the Lebanese Army, the Syrian Army and Hezbollah, who launched a week long offensive carried out on two fronts.
