The Islamist rebels from the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra”, Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Liwaa Suqour Al-Jabal, and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) have continued to carry out attacks on the predominately Kurdish “People’s Protection Units” (YPG) inside the Sheikh Maqsoud District of Aleppo City, firing multiple mortar shells and rockets in the direction of the Castillo Highway that was cutoff by the aforementioned militia.

According to field reports from the YPG, the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra, Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, the Free Syrian Army, and Liwaa Suqour Al-Jabal carried out an attack on the Kurdish militia while they were traveling along the Castillo Highway; this abrupt attack resulted in 1 YPG killed and another 6 wounded-in-action (WIA).

Recently, the situation inside the predominately Kurdish district of Sheikh Maqsoud has become extremely tense due to the Islamist rebel fighters indiscriminately targeting civilian neighborhoods and their sporadic attacks on the YPG contingents manning the checkpoints inside this area of Aleppo City; this is the only district in the provincial capital that is not controlled by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) or Islamist rebels.

The YPG has not declared war against the Islamist rebels; however, if this aggression continues, it will be difficult to imagine the YPG remaining neutral to these Islamist fighters that rely on the Sheikh Maqsoud District to resupply and reinforce their entrenched fighters in Aleppo City.
