The Taliban has taken responsibility for a suicide car bombing attack on a foreign military convoy just 200 meters away from the US embassy, killing 3 NATO – led servicemen and injuring at least 16, in Kabul.
The explosion occurred near the main entrance to the US embassy at about 8:00 am (0330 GMT) during heavy peak-hour traffic, with several people severely wounded.
The blast shook nearby buildings and set off siren alarms at the US embassy as emergency vehicles raced through the streets to the scene, which is one of the busiest intersections in the Afghan capital.
Taliban sources told reporters via e-mail and on Twitter that the group had carried out the attack.
