BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 A.M.) – The Russian-supplied S-300 missile system has reportedly completed its installation phase and is considered combat ready, satellite images posted by a Russian channel revealed on Wednesday.

The Russian Telegram channel Военный Осведомитель released two images showing the S-300 system fully installed near the Syrian city of Masyaf in the western countryside of the Hama Governoate.

Russia delivered the S-300 system to Syria on October 1, 2018; this delivery was conducted in response to the downing of their IL-20 reconnaissance plane on September 1.

The Russian Ministry of Defense blamed Israel for the downing of the IL-20 along the Latakia coast. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, an Israeli F-16 used the IL-20 for cover during their attack on western Syria.

Since October 1st, however, Israel has bombed Syria on several occasions, including their most recent attack on the western countryside of the Damascus Governorate.

This is obvious… Although, after having fired 300 F-16 pilots in 2016, since nea all of them left Turkey, had their pilot licenses re-validated abroad and either did type-qualifications on air-liners or found fighter pilot jobs in other AFs, e.g. UAE, Jordan, Pakistan… The number of F-16 pilots in Turkey is at an all time low. From what I could gather, Erdog hired Paki flight instructors, but it’s falling apart since US proposed Pakis to upgrade their F-16, and pull out the instructors from Turkey at the same time… Dictators usually don’t like the Air-Forces : they have brain, people… Read more »

We have installed and commissioned it. Actual Trails & Field testing is pending. We need a fighter jet to test it against if it successfully works and meets the design parameters. Any volunteers please?

Call Erdogan, tell him there is a Kurdish battalion, he’ll surely send a F-16 or F-4…

(I mean, when brave IDF pilots aren’t hiding behind them, or civilian Lebanese and Syrian airliners, of course.)

Bullshït to avoid charging SyADF incompetence in the downing of Il-20M! The timeframe in the Russian explanation makes no sense! Can you only imagine a patrol of F-16 circling for 15-20 minutes waiting the Il-20M to hide behind? At 40km from a land radar, it already sees nothing under 100m altitude. Go calculate by yourself the altitude able to hide you at 110km+, the range of a SDB! You approach your launch zone at low altitude, you climb to launch your SDBs in a bell-shape figure, then immediately after drop, you dive at low altitude, to low for radar coverage… Read more »

Isn’it a little bit stupid to have all the S 400 on the same place ? On the other hand that doesn’t matter because they are not allowed to be used against Russia’s friends ( Israel and Turkey )

Didn’t you noticed that Turkey didn’t provides any air support since the Afrin “job”? SyADF has no envy to repeat the Feb 2018 blunder when they shot down a F-16 by chance. On 900 SAM launchers, 450 were demolished as retaliation. IDF doesn’t targets SyADF or SAA unless being shot at by them. Same stuff as the 1982 Bekaa valley Turkey shooting : Begin warned Hafez to not interfere in what wasn’t Syria’s business and nothing would happen to Syrian militaries in Lebanon. Hafez interfered, he lost 29 SAM batteries (not launchers: full batteries, likely of 32 “ramps”) and 86… Read more »

Well, let us see if Syria really wants to use them against Israel planes, if Russia allows this.

SAA dont use S-300 because Israel launch their attacks from Israel airspace and from lebanon at low altitude and hide behind mountains then launche long range cruise missile!..S-300 is useful only to avoid a substained campaign in the time over Syrian airspace which needed antibunker bombs or airstrike vs large convoy….

Most of the time cruise missiles aren’t needed : SDB gliding bomb ranges 110km, is pretty cheap and very accurate. I think there is even a small rocket booster available now, so range is more likely to be about 180km with it, if not more…
