After several months of surveillance, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) fired several missiles on a building believed to be used by Jabhat al-Nusra (now known as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham) in the Taibah sector of Jobar neighborhood in Damascus.
According to a military source close to Al-Masdar News, the SAA’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard waited until a unit of jihadist militants were observed entering the building which was subsequently razed to the ground due to the impact of the missiles.
Around a dozen Islamist fighters were buried beneath the rubble.
Hardly any civilians remain inside Jobar after almost five years of clashes in the district have destroyed it completely – neither side has advanced in some time as the neighborhood is not suitable for rapid infantry advances. Snipers are said to be lurking around every corner.
Meanwhile, the SAA’s 4th Mechanized officially initiated its long-awaited offensive to capture the neighbouring districts of Al-Qaboun and Barzeh on Saturday.
Should these residential areas fall into government hands, rebel forces around the Syrian capital will be left with merely two pockets; namely at the Yarmouk Camp and East Ghouta.
