The Syrian Arab Army’s Special Forces carried out a secret mission in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus on Saturday in order to ambush a Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) convoy that was traveling from the village of Al-Shifouniyah to Hawsh Nasri.
According to an Al-Masdar correspondent in Damascus City, the Syrian Armed Forces received a local tip about a Jaysh Al-Islam convoy that was transporting their prominent leader, “Abu Matez,” to Hawsh Nasri.
The Syrian Special Forces were meticulous in their planning and carried out this ambush successfully on Saturday, capturing the Jaysh Al-Islam commander and two of his bodyguards outside the village of Al-Shifouniyah.
No casualties were reported from the Syrian Special Forces; however, Abu Matez’s fighters quickly abandoned him after the ambush.
Abu Matez and his bodyguards have now been transferred to the competent authorities in Damascus (Air Force Intelligence) for further questioning.
