BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:20 A.M.) – The Syrian and Russian air forces were relentless today in the eastern countryside of Hama, launching nonstop airstrikes over the Islamic State’s positions near the Al-Raqqa Governorate’s provincial border.
Syrian and Russian aviation officers were collecting intel for weeks before they launched the airstrikes over east Hama on Saturday, a military source told Al-Masdar News.
The source added that more than 5 helicopters and 2 jets struck the Islamic State’s positions at the villages of Soha, Uqayrbat, Bal’as, and Al-Tanhaj in Hama’s eastern countryside.
As a result of these airstrikes, the Islamic State lost several armored vehicles and a large number of combatants; especially, inside their primary stronghold of Uqayrbat in eastern Hama.
The eastern countryside of Hama is imperative to the Islamic State because it borders the Al-Raqqa Governorate; this is important because it is located along their supply route from east Homs.
