DAMASCUS, SYRIA (6:00 P.M.) – Restaurants in Esenyurt district of Istanbul province were raided by health inspectors amid increasing complaints from both restaurant-goers and residents over health code violations.
The inspection raid resulted in closing down 21 restaurants owned by Syrian entrepreneurs for failure to meet the health standards.
Cockroaches, cigarette butts and dirt were spotted all over the kitchens where food served to customers is made in a way completely inconsistent with the pre-defined conditions. The lack of air filters has also allowed the smell to spread all over the neighboring buildings.
Restaurant owners were told to fix the flaws and pay the fees before having their restaurants re-opened again.
