DAMASCUS, SYRIA (3:30 P.M.) – The Saudi-backed rebels threatened to wipe out Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (previously known as Jabhet al-Nusra) from the Eastern Ghouta region as infighting continues for the third day.
In an official statement issued today [Photo below], Jaish al-Islam said its fighters are waging a full-scale operation against the rival jihadi group across the Eastern Ghouta, accusing it of dawning enmities among the opposition forces fighting the Syrian government.
It [Jaish al-Islam] also appealed for Faylaq al-Rahman to join the campaign or at least adhere to a neutral stance as battles are expected to escalate in the upcoming days.
“Your support – in fighters and weapons – for the defeated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham jihadists is totally unacceptable and unjustifiable ant any case. We have made clear that our aim is to eradicate HTS from Eastern Ghouta; and we are ready to offer more assurances to guarantee your safety,” Jaish al-Islam addressed Faylaiq al-Rahman in the statement.
The recent infighting has killed and inures scores of militants as well civilians from all warring parties amid mass protest form the locals.
According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 87 militants and 8 civilians have been so far killed in the infighting.
