BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:10 P.M.) – The Syrian military is in possession of the S-300 air defense system, Russian Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu said tonight.
According to the Shoigu, Russian delivered 49 pieces of hardware to the Syrian military, including four launchers, boost-light pathfinders, primary positioning systems, and command vehicles.
With the Syrian military in possession of the S-300, the Russian Armed Forces will begin training government air defense troops over the next three months, Shoigu stated.
“Work on setting up joint air defense command and control system in Syria to be completed by October 20th,” he continued.
“Russia will control a 200km remote zone in Syria,” he added.
