BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:30 A.M.) – The Syrian Air Defense informed their Russian advisers regarding their intentions to retaliate against the Israeli warplanes that attacked their positions near Palmyra (Tadmur), a military source informed Al-Masdar on Monday.
Russian Marines advising the Syrian Arab Army in western Palmyra were only a few kilometers away from one of the sites the Israeli warplanes attacked on Friday morning.
Not long after the airstrikes by the Israeli warplanes, the Syrian Air Defense fired a number of S-200 anti-aircraft missiles towards the enemy planes, reportedly hitting one aircraft in the Al-Bureij area near the Lebanese border.
Following this incident, the Russian government summoned the Israeli Ambassador and demanded an explanation regarding their unwarranted aggression against the Syrian Armed Forces in the Palmyra countryside.
The Israeli regime alleges they were targeting Hezbollah; however, local sources told Al-Masdar that there were no Hezbollah soldiers in the targeted area.
It is worth noting that the Syrian forces Israel attacked on Friday morning are also fighting the Islamic State (ISIS) terror organization in the Syrian Desert.
