BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:30 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAYF) conducted a large number of airstrikes over Deir Ezzor on Wednesday, targeting an Islamic State (ISIS) gathering point near Jabal Thardeh in the western part of the province.
According to a military source at the Deir Ezzor Airport, drone footage from the western slopes of Jabal Thardeh revealed a massive gathering of Islamic State terrorists around Point 2.
With direct coordinates of this gathering point, the Syrian Air Force would launch several airstrikes over Point 2 on Wednesday, killing and wounding an estimated 50+ Islamic State terrorists.
For nearly three weeks, the Islamic State had been building up their forces around Jabal Thardeh and the Al-Rashidiyah District of Deir Ezzor City; however, their first attempt at an offensive was foiled before it could start.
These losses in Deir Ezzor and western Palmyra have taken a toll on the Islamic State, forcing them to redeploy reserves to northern Syria in order to alleviate the pressure on their terrorists fighting the Turkish Army and Kurdish forces.
