DAMASCUS, SYRIA (5:50 P.M.) – The Syrian Ministry of Electricity said that electricity has been fully restored to Zamalka and Kafr Btna towns in East Ghouta region as part of a wider campaign to rehabilitate the war-ravaged towns.
The operation to rehabilitate the infrastructure kicked off as soon as militants left East Ghouta to the country’s north as per an evacuation deal with the Syrian government.
Zamalka and Kafr Btna was among many other towns and cities held by rebel groups for years before the entire East Ghouta region is declared fully liberated last April.
Most of the area was reduced to rubble due to the heavy battles fought for years between the Islamist insurgents and Syrian forces.
However, the Syrian government was quick enough to bring back life to several towns. Roads were fixed, rubbles removed and schools reopened in cities like Harasta.
