BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:22 A.M.) – Syrian government forces have continued their advancement in northwestern Aleppo city after an intense battle with militant forces.
The Syrian forces comprising of the Republican Guards, the National Defense Forces and the al-Quds Brigade were able to advance and capture new building blocks in Jamiyat al-Zahraa to the west of Rasol Azam mosque.
This advancement was only possible after artillery strikes devastated militant defensive positions. The same artillery would provide heavy cover for the advancing Syrian forces.
Despite militant defensive positions being weakened by artillery fire, the offensive still proved costly for the Syrian forces as they lost over a dozen soldiers as they attempted to advance further and were caught in an open area.
Despite the setback, this latest advancement has put the Syrian forces in a strategically important position close to the al-Layramoun factories area.
