BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:30 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS) launched a powerful offensive in southeast Syria, today, targeting the government-held areas in the Al-Sweida Governorate.

ISIS began the offensive by storming the Syrian Arab Army’s positions at the hilltops of Tal Barakat and Tal Aliyah.

Not long after attacking those hilltops, another ISIS group stormed the Syrian Army’s positions at the desert town of Rademah in the northeastern countryside of the Al-Sweida Governorate.

While the attack did catch the pro-government forces off guard, the Islamic State was still unable to gain any ground after several hours of fighting.

According to a military source in Sweida city, the Syrian Armed Forces managed to foil the Islamic State’s offensive after reinforcements poured in from the provincial capital and the Badiya Al-Sham region.

Meanwhile, at another front in Al-Sweida, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) and National Defense Forces (NDF) carried out their own attack against the Islamic State.

According to the SSNP’s official media wing, their forces captured several areas from the Islamic State terrorists, including a number of hilltops.

Below is a video that was released by the Syrian Social Nationalist Party, today; it shows their field operations against ISIS in the Al-Sweida Goverorate:
