Moments ago, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade (commandos) of the Republican Guard – backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF), Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade), the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and Syrian Marines – imposed full control over several sites in northeastern Latakia after a violent battle with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).
The Syrian Armed Forces began their assault this morning by targeting the surrounding hilltops overlooking the rebel stronghold of Kinsibba in Jabal Al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains).
Following an afternoon filled with intense clashes, the Syrian Commandos and their allies established control over Point 665, Dhuhrat Al-Kroum, Ardh Al-Qaram, and Ruweisat Al-Jultah in Jabal Al-Akrad, forcing the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army to retreat north in order to regroup.
In addition to the capture of the aforementioned sites, the Syrian Armed Forces are also attacking Jabhat Al-Nusra’s defenses at the Sileef Valley that is located just south of Kinsibba.
The Syrian Commandos and their allies are currently concentrated on the strategic village of Kinsibba; this aforementioned rebel stronghold is considered the primary gateway to the city of Jisr Al-Shughour in the Idlib Governorate’s northwestern countryside.
