BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:15 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) progressed more than 30km through the Al-Raqqa Governorate’s eastern countryside on Friday, putting them in position to enter the Deir Ezzor Governorate from its northwestern axis.

Led by the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies from nearby tribes began the assault on Friday by surprising the Islamic State (ISIL) with an attack on their positions east of Resafa.

Unprepared and lacking manpower, the Islamic State forces were unable to hold their ground in the southeastern countryside of Al-Raqqa, resulting in their mass retreat across the province on Friday morning.

With the Syrian Army now on the cusp of entering Deir Ezzor, the Islamic State will find themselves in a world of trouble with another government unit quickly advancing on their last east Homs stronghold (Al-Sukhnah).

I would guess that there was a blitz advance and the situation in the region it got harder resistance is not stable yet. In principle, the advance along the Euphratus has advantages of rather flat terrains, a highway, and only one flank to defend as the front line is extended, but some counterattacks and shifts in positions are to be expected. E.g. “almost entering a village” and then “stopping after a counterattack”.

By the way, the villages reported earlier are 100 km for Deir-ez-Zor, not 80.

Thta is right. The SAA have to seize the cities along the Euphrates, so the left flank is equla to 0.
The problem of the way via the oasis, the land is rugged, so it is easy to hide and counter acttack in the back. So it is necessary to seite the land around the oasis.
That will be done.

AMN is that true? Because earlier one of the comments referred Twiter with a post from a newsman that says these news are NOT true! Please, let us know if you were able to verify this information!

Now, this is news!
The previous report of a 5 km gain was NOT newsworthy!

Unfortunately, this report seems to be false. Additionally, this advance, if actual, would NOT have been in the direction of Deir ez Zor!
