For the last two months, the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) has been able to constantly break into the Industrial District (Hayy Al-Sina’a) of Deir Ezzor City, leaving the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) with no recourse to combat this infiltration.
The source of ISIS’ entry could not be addressed because it was unknown; however, this would change on Sunday when the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard unearthed a large tunnel used by the terrorist group to enter the Industrial District.
According to a military source in the Deir Ezzor Governorate, the Syrian Armed Forces unearthed a 30 meter long tunnel that led from Mazara Street to the eastern sector of the Industrial District.
ISIS would use this tunnel to launch their assault behind the Syrian Arab Army’s front-lines and wreck havoc around the Industrial District before the origin of the attack could be addressed by the government forces.
The Syrian Armed Forces have now destroyed this tunnel, but this is not the last they will see of ISIS and their tunnels because the aforementioned terrorist group has a large network of them around the city.
