BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:45 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) uncovered seven mass graves in the Deir Ezzor countryside on Tuesday, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.
According to the report, the Syrian military found the seven mass graves near the large city of Albukamal in southeast Deir Ezzor.
The mass graves contained the remains of hundreds of unidentified people that were likely killed by the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh).
A SANA reporter said that the Syrian military found the mass graves while conducting a combing operation outside Albukamal city.
The reporter added that teams from the local civil defense and Syrian Arab Red Crescent had recovered 101 bodies already, many of which appear to have been tortured and abused before being killed, clarifying that work is underway to retrieve more bodies.
